Punt return mystery

You might have had a better chance of getting John McCain to tell you his vice presidential pick Thursday than finding out who will be Georgia’s punt returner on Saturday.
“I’m really curious to see who the punt returner is going to be,” coach Mark Richt told reporters Thursday, the last time he meets with the media before the game.
“Really and truly, I’m kind of curious to see who that’s going to be. I think that’s going to be a game-day decision.”
The man making the decision is assistant coach Jon Fabris, who claimed on Wednesday that his list was still pretty long.
“I’ve not settled on anybody, which is not good, but I haven’t,” Fabris said. “I’m working 12. There’s more than a half dozen that are a possibility to be the first guy back there.”

Knowshon: Is punt return reward worth the risk?
Submitted by Marc Weiszer on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 5:41pm.
If Knowshon Moreno, sneezes these days that might qualify as news.
So how does it grab you that Moreno is among the candidates to return punts this season for Georgia?
Coach Mark Richt said Thursday after Georgia’s kicking scrimmage that the star sophomore tailback is a bonafide candidate.
The question, of course, is this: Is the reward of the explosive Moreno returning punts worth the risk of putting perhaps the most valuable member of the team on the field for even more plays and risking injury?
“I think he could be pretty good at it,” Richt said. “I’m not sure if we’ll pull the trigger or not.”
Arkansas running back Felix Jones was one of the nation’s top kickoff returners last year, but the Razorbacks had a guy named Darren McFadden also.
Then again, Heisman Trophy winner Reggue Bush had 559 yards and three TDs on 44 career punt returns at Southern California.
