Now this is football weather. Big Ten football weather.
It’s a brisk 51 degrees here at Commonwealth Stadium. Kris Durham and Logan Gray are wearing knit hats during warm-up tosses.
It will be interesting to see how Georgia responds from the Florida loss last week.
There’s already one noteworthy personnel switch.
I’m told that Andrew Gully is starting at defensive end. Yes, the senior walk-on from Vienna, Va., who had a half a sack against Arizona State.
Georgia has only six total sacks from its defensive ends this season.
Another switch could be Richard Samuel as the backup tailback.
Samuel, all of 17 years old, is learning as he goes during his freshman season.
Georgia coach Mark Richt wants to see more of what Samuel can do.
Richard only has eight kickoff returns this season, but he’s gotten a couple of big plays in two of them.

Return of the tight end

Welcome back, Georgia’s tight ends.
The Bulldogs tight ends have reversed a trend of not being involved in the passing game.
None had a pass thrown to them against Alabama, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, but Bruce Figgins had a 17-yard catch, Tripp Chandler snagged a 14-yard reception and Aron White scored his first career touchdown on a 19-yard strike from Joe Cox against Florida.
“That definitely helped our confidence and helped us feel like our offensive coordinator and our coach are pulling for us to get the ball,” said White, who had a 41-yard reception against LSU.
The Florida game was the first for Chandler after missing the previous three with a shoulder injury.

Wrap on SEC Media Days
Submitted by Marc Weiszer on Fri, 07/25/2008 - 3:25pm.
A couple of years ago, Kentucky banned receiver Dicky Lyons Jr. from talking to the media before the Georgia game because of something he told the press the week before.
That was a shame because Lyons is one of the most lively quotes in the SEC.
He didn’t disappoint Friday when he revealed that Matthew Stafford has invaded his dreams.
Lyons and Stafford both attended the Manning football camp this summer. I’m putting the anecdote in my notebook for tomorrow’s paper that will be online today.
Three of the four coaches who took the podium on the final day were former NFL coaches.
South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier and Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino returned to the college game after less than stellar experiences in the NFL.
Spurrier had two 7-9 seasons in Washington and Petrino was 3-10 in Atlanta before getting out of town.
