So I was just checking the 40 Watt Web site because a friend of mine said he might be coming to Athens when Tokyo Police Club plays here. I couldn’t remember when that was, so I figured I look so I know when to have my house clean for an overnight guest.
So I am scrolling down and I see they are playing with The Whigs on Sept. 10. I actually had to repress my excitement. I don’t check the site that often, so I have no idea how long that has been on there. Am I breaking any here or am I the last person in Athens to know? Regardless, tell me who isn’t excited about seeing The Whigs play in Athens again. It’s been MONTHS!
However, I can’t believe I am going to shell out $15 to see a show here, but I am sure it will be well worth it. It’s just that you can get spoiled pretty easily by never having to pay more than $10 … well ever. I know there are exceptions, but those aren’t shows I usually go to anyway.
And I’ll actually be able to get down there early since the show is on a Wednesday night. But I seriously doubt it will be any less crowded than the ”Mission Control” CD release party earlier this year (seriously I had to stand in line outside for like a half hour).
What do you think Athens, will you stay out late on a Wednesday night to see The Whigs?

Yep.
Yep.
I was already sure I would
I was already sure I would see you there! Oh the Modern Skirts CD release is Aug. 22 in case you didn't know ... I talked to Phillip last night and he is so excited.
No, I was the last person in Athens to know about this...
Yes, what an excitement indeed to be able to finally see The Whigs. I missed them the last time because I was working out of town at that time. I too, shall have house clean and ready to accomodate any last minute Atlanta friends who may want to crash at GG's place.
You've never seen them
You've never seen them before? My advice, bring earplugs.
When they played a surprise show at Tasty World last October, I thought I was going to have a ringing in my ears for the rest of my life. Only last three days though.
Huh? What'd you say?
Take it from this old shooter.
That ringing is permanent nerve damage.
Right about that.
Mine is still ringing from artillery. In the old days they wouldn't let you wear plugs. How stupid was that.
Because that's back when men
Because that's back when men we tough and didn't need no stinkin' earplugs?
Guess I flunked then.
Guess I flunked then.
I figured as much, but it
I figured as much, but it went away. I have been going to concerts since I was in my mom's tummy. I have held out little hope that my hearing would be perfect in my old age :)
Is it the Whigs or the
Is it the Whigs or the Modern Skirts that do that Outback jingle?
Neither
It's Of Montreal.
oh, I knew it was a big
oh, I knew it was a big local band. Shows how much I go out...
It's "Wraith Pinned to the
It's "Wraith Pinned to the Mist" off Sunlandic Twins, if you want to look it up on the internets.
Incidentally, Outback just bought the melody. They changed the lyrics and got another band to cover the song.
Well The Whigs just got
Well The Whigs just got signed in 2006 or 2007 (can't remember) and the Skirts are still not signed, so it's unlikely that either would get a big corporate deal yet. Unlikely, but not impossible.
You should come out more ... The Skirts are playing Aug. 22 at the 40 Watt and you already know when The Whigs are playing :)
